- Extra Cash & Credit Cards (Small Bills and Change Also)
- Special Family Items (Diapers, Games, Diabetic Testing Supplies,
Laptops, False Teeth, etc…)
- Fully Charged Cellular Telephones with Chargers and Extra
Batteries
- Pet Care Items (Carrier, Leash, Food, Medication)
- Portable Generator (If Your Not Going to a Shelter)
- Gas for Generator (If Your Not Going to a Shelter)

- Learn the Location of Official Hurricane Shelters (941) 861-5000
- Check Emergency Supplies and Equipment (See Above)
- Make Copies of Insurance Policies for Flood & Wind Damage
- Trim and Secure Trees and Bushes that Could Fall or Blow Away
Damaging Property
- Make Sure Every Member of Your Family has a List of Phone
Numbers and Addresses for Family and Friends (In Case You are
Separated)
When a Storm is Predicted for Our Area
- Photograph or Video Your Home and Belongings for Future Insurance
Needs
- Copy Id’s, Credit Cards, Insurance Policies (Store them in a Dry Place!)
- Fuel Up and Service Your Vehicles (Store Boats in a Safe Area)
- Cover All Windows and Doors with Plywood or Storm Shutters
- Store all Exterior Items (Garbage Cans, Lawn Mowers, Hanging Plants
etc…)
- Review with Your Family what Your Emergency Plan is and How to Best
Follow it.
When a Storm is Eminent
- Evacuate to a Designated Shelter as Instructed by Officials
- Listen to the NOAA Weather Bulletins & Local Radio Stations
- Notify Neighbors & Family Outside of the Area with Your Plans
- Do Not Wait Too Long to Act!
If You Choose to Say in Your Home (Not Advised for Hurricanes)
- Turn Your Refrigerator to the Coldest Setting and Keep the Door
Shut
- Turn Off Gas Lines and Propane Tanks
- Unplug and Store Household Appliances
- Store Breakables in an Interior Closet
- Fill Bathtubs & Containers with Water
- Stay in a Room With No Windows
After the Storm
- Listen to the Radio for Weather, Road, Damage Conditions, and
Power Outages
- Return to Your Home Only When Instructed by Officials
- Do Not Drive or Walk Through Moving Water (More Than 6 Inches
Deep)
- Do Not Stand in Stagnate Water (It May Be Electrically Charged or
Contaminated with Waste)
- Check on any Elderly People in Your Area
- Take Pictures or Video of Any Damage & Notify Your Insurance Agent and ServiceMaster Clean to Start the Remediation Process
- Have Gas, Water, and Electrical Lines Checked by a Professional
